Origin of Haspa

Haspa's origin dates back to 1827 when the inhabitants of Hamburg formed the "Hamburger Sparcasse von 1827" on June 16, 1827 in a private initiative. The purpose of this formation was to give less prosperous citizens the possibility of depositing their savings safely and with interest and thereby arming themselves against possible financial emergencies.

The two Savings Banks in Hamburg - "Hamburger Sparcasse von 1827" and "Neue Sparcasse von 1864" - amalgamated together in 1972 to form "Hamburger Sparkasse", better known under the abbreviation of "Haspa" commonly used in business circles.
